The meter is moving: check which voice Aurora is receiving

A person tests headphones and a microphone beside a laptop with no visible interface.

Check the source before interpreting the meter

A moving audio meter indicates activity; by itself it does not establish that you are reading the voice you intended. Before a meeting, agree on a test phrase and check its source: PC audio, microphone or both. Then review the resulting text. A visible level and a correctly transcribed phrase are different checks.

The procedure below is a suggested test, not an observed session or a recognition guarantee.

Separate the example’s two voices

Imagine the other person’s voice playing through the PC while yours enters through a microphone. For a test without personal information, play your own authorized audio phrase and say a different phrase. For example, the PC audio says “The blue box is closed” and you say “I am preparing the meeting.”

Before testing, adapt the phrases to the languages supported by your configuration: system audio must suit the selected preset and microphone speech is transcribed in the target language. Changing the target alone does not add another supported input language. Use the phrases as references without sensitive instructions or another person’s real information. If you cannot identify which sound is entering, stop and review the source before increasing volume or sharing text.

Choose according to what you want to read

  • For PC sound, check the system-audio selection and play the first phrase.
  • For your voice, check the selected microphone and say the second.
  • For a combined session, select Both and check each contribution separately.

The Aurora documentation describes system, microphone and Both sources, a VU meter, and text activity for microphone and Both. It also gives an important limit: microphone speech is transcribed in the target language, never translated. Do not use it as a test of two-way translation.

When activity appears but the expected phrase does not

Record the chosen source, the phrase you produced and any text that appeared. Check the configured language and preset as well. Do not turn “the bar moves” into “meeting audio is ready.” Missing or incorrect output remains an unresolved test even when sound exists.

Selecting Both does not require turning on OGG recording or optional assistance. If you choose those features, review their conditions separately. The optional assistant uses a connection and account requirements and can send textual context outside the PC; it is not needed to decide whether the audio source is appropriate.

Before your meeting

Aurora is a paid Windows product. Check requirements and the download through its official website. Retain your test as an observation of that configuration rather than a universal accuracy measurement. A different voice, language or noise condition needs its own check.
