Music comes from the PC too: prepare the audio before captioning

Leave the conversation you want to follow playing

If a meeting and a spoken video are playing on the same PC, start by pausing unrelated content. Aurora can capture Windows system audio: selecting that source is not the same as selecting only your conversation partner’s voice.

The proposed preparation is simple: one known speech source, one test sentence and a review of the text. You need not change several settings at once or immediately blame the language.

A situation with two sources

Fictional example: you have opened a call to discuss a project, while a tab is still playing an interview. Both voices are audible on the computer. If captions seem to jump between topics, first check what is playing: interpreting this as Aurora “switching meetings” does not identify the cause.

Pause the interview in its application and, where appropriate, agree on a test sentence during the call. For example: “The draft review will be on Thursday.” This sentence was created for the guide, rather than being verified program output. Compare audio with text before treating it as an instruction.

Prepare a test you can interpret

  1. Check which applications and tabs are playing speech or music; pause those unrelated to the session.
  2. Choose System, Mic or Both for the input you need. System is for PC audio; the microphone is a separate input. Both is an experimental mode that considers both sources.
  3. Play or agree on a short sentence through the chosen input. Read the text as well as checking audio activity.
  4. If the problem persists, keep a note of the input tested and what you heard. Do not promise that turning up the volume will solve it or assume a per-app isolation feature.

The public Aurora documentation supports Windows audio capture and the modes’ limits. This test sequence is an editorial proposal: it is neither an accuracy measurement nor certification that different voices will be recognized separately.

What this preparation does not establish

Pausing other sources does not guarantee correct transcription. Check the specific sentence you intend to use to reply, decide a date or follow an instruction. Also distinguish local transcription from Assisted Audio: enabling that assistant can send conversation text and your guide to Codex/OpenAI, and requires internet and Codex access.

Aurora is a paid Windows 11 product. Review its requirements and demonstrations before buying or configuring your session. This guide helps decide what should play during the test; it does not add an application selector or guarantee removal of music.
