Read a conversation without changing its language

In a call with friends or family, the need may simply be reading what they say, without translating it. For English or Spanish speech, Aurora Subtitles lets you select the same source and target language in its CPU presets. It then displays recognized speech without loading a translator. The call stays in your voice app; Aurora listens to PC audio and presents text in a Windows overlay.

Prepare a call step by step

  1. Identify where the other person’s voice arrives. If you hear it through your PC’s headphones or speakers, select Aurora’s system audio input. The microphone input is for your own voice, not theirs. For Discord, use the voice-chat guide.
  2. To read without translation, set source and target to the same language: English→English or Spanish→Spanish in a CPU preset. For calls in other languages, review the language routes and requirements before selecting translation.
  3. Place the overlay where it stays readable without covering the other person’s face, call controls, or shared documents. Adjust size, contrast, background, and line count for your display.
  4. Make a short check with the same output device and audio you will use for the conversation. If text is missing, check volume, Windows output, and Aurora’s input. If a name, number, or important detail is wrong, ask for written confirmation.

If you have not chosen a tool, start with Windows 11 Live Captions, which also captions other apps and offers presentation controls. The hearing-support comparison explains when Aurora’s options may fit a particular workflow.

What automatic captions cannot promise

Overlapping speech, noise, poor call audio, and uncommon names can cause mistakes or omissions. Captions may help someone follow a conversation, but cannot guarantee complete understanding or replace professional accessibility or interpretation services. For healthcare, official matters, and other important decisions, confirm essential details through another channel. Aurora is not a medical device.
