Save As does not move your recording: choose which copy to share

Locate both versions first

In Aurora, Save As creates a copy of a recording and retains the original. Saving an OGG to another folder does not move or delete the session file. Check which location you are opening before attaching anything.

Imagine recording a private audio test without other people’s conversations, then placing the result in a working folder. Our suggestion is to keep an identifiable original and give the copy a clear purpose. This is not synchronization or a claim of automatic backup.

A short route through Audio > Sessions

Aurora’s documentation describes optional local OGG recording: ON starts it and OFF finalizes it. Audio > Sessions lists recordings, opens their storage folder and offers Save As.

  1. Finalize the recording with OFF before preparing the file you want to use.
  2. Locate the session in Audio > Sessions. Open its folder to establish where the original lives.
  3. Use Save As and choose a folder with an obvious purpose, such as your audio-test folder. The name is your choice, not an enforced Aurora naming scheme.
  4. Open the copy from its destination and listen to the actual file you intend to attach. Check its beginning, ending and intended content.
  5. Review the recipient and attachment in the application used for sending. Sending is a separate action.

You can complete this check without sending anything. A harmless test using your own voice can expose a wrong-folder mistake without involving someone else’s content.

Resolve three possible mix-ups

A different location does not mean different audio. Save As documents a copy, not trimming, anonymization or format conversion. If editing is necessary, examine a suitable audio editor and check its output separately.

A copy on the same computer does not establish independent backup. Choose where to retain the material and who can access it. A folder name supplies no additional protection.

Later deletion or changes require another decision. The original remains after copying, so do not assume sensitive material has disappeared. This guide does not credit Aurora with remote deletion or recalling a sent attachment.

Check the source as well as the file

Recording captures only the selected source; Both records system audio and microphone audio. Choosing a different source changes the content, not merely the filename. Agree what will be recorded and shared before including other people’s voices; this is not legal advice.

Audacity distinguishes saving a project from exporting audio, while Windows Sound Recorder help describes its own saving and sharing workflow. Checked on 24 October 2026, these references do not establish identical behavior across applications.

Aurora is a Windows 11 x64 Early Access app. Review its current requirements and downloads. Finish by opening the intended file from its actual folder, keeping it distinct from the original retained in the session.
