Aurora vs StreamVox: Local Captions or a Cloud Subscription?
Aurora Subtitles fits Windows users who want local captions and translation with a one-time license. StreamVox is worth considering when you prefer cloud processing and a free daily allowance. The trade-off is processing location, setup and payment model.

As checked on 4 September 2026, StreamVox’s billing guide lists 15 free minutes per day and paid plans from US$8.99 per month. Confirm current limits and regional prices with the vendor.
Aurora has a paid lifetime license for the current Aurora Subtitles product, including updates during Early Access. It does not meter the core local caption pipeline through cloud minute credits. The final price and currency appear at checkout; downloading the installer is not a free-use license.
Local processing or cloud processing?
Aurora performs its core transcription and translation locally on Windows 11 x64 after model setup. Internet is used for activation, license validation, downloads and updates.
StreamVox describes its speech recognition and translation as cloud-powered on its official product page. Its overlay is not evidence that the recognition itself runs locally.

Aurora no longer requires an NVIDIA GPU
Maximum Compatibility is CPU-only for all 28 documented languages; every listed language can be source or target, and any pair in the list is supported. Maximum Quality supports every source and target available in Aurora, with GPU acceleration when possible and automatic CPU fallback. Speed varies by PC, language and workload. Decide using your actual audio
For Discord or meetings, identify the audio source and target language first. Aurora captures system audio or the microphone; it does not need to join a meeting as a bot. Experimental Both mode keeps microphone events separate from the overlay.
