Aurora Subtitles 0.1.47: GPU Dependency Fix for Windows Installation

Aurora Subtitles 0.1.47 was released on August 24, 2026. It fixes a GPU dependency problem that could affect installation on systems without an available GPU, while preserving the CPU-oriented path introduced in the preceding release notes.

What changed across the recent releases

Our recorded release notes for this period are:

  • 0.1.44 — August 22: Aurora defined two canonical operating presets. Maximum Compatibility runs on CPU for English source audio, while Maximum Quality can use GPU acceleration and fall back to CPU. The same release also improved the realtime flow for long conversations, added the experimental Both input, and made the overlay handle at least three subtitle lines with cleaner partial updates.
  • 0.1.45 — August 23: updater releases moved to the IliciLabs GitLab release project. This changed the distribution path; it did not change the one-time licensing model.
  • 0.1.47 — August 24: the installer received a fix for a GPU dependency problem on systems without an available GPU. That matters for people who want to start with the CPU-oriented path and for machines where GPU detection should not prevent installation.

Current capability update (September 9, 2026): Maximum Compatibility accepts English source audio and translates into 51 published target languages on CPU. That target-language catalog is separate from the Maximum Quality language selection. The historical 0.1.44 note above remains a record of that release.

Which preset should you choose?

Start with Maximum Compatibility when you want a CPU-only setup for English source audio and a target in the 51-language CPU catalog. It is the clearest path for that workflow on a compatible Windows 11 PC without a dedicated GPU.

Choose Maximum Quality when you need a broader source-and-target language combination. A compatible GPU can accelerate this preset, but the documented behavior includes an automatic CPU fallback. GPU hardware is therefore an acceleration option, not a universal installation requirement.

Aurora still requires Windows 11 64-bit. Activation, license validation, model downloads, updates, and checkout may require internet access even though the core caption and translation pipeline is designed to run locally after the stack is prepared. Review the requirements and operating modes before downloading.

A sensible upgrade checklist

If you already own Aurora, download the current installer from the download page and activate it with your valid license. Make a backup of any important Aurora configuration before installing, then review the selected preset and source language after the update.
