How to translate game dialogue on Windows

A scene with voices in another language presents a specific need: reading what the characters say while listening to the game. This guide focuses on that audio playing on the PC. For conversations with other people, see the Discord captions guide.
Aurora Subtitles captures Windows system audio and displays translated subtitles in an overlay. This guide covers spoken game dialogue.
Check the language before choosing
Aurora requires a compatible Windows 11 64-bit PC. Maximum Compatibility uses the CPU and accepts English source audio. Maximum Quality has its own selectable language catalogue, optional GPU acceleration and CPU fallback. Do not assume both presets accept the same source language: check the pair you need in Aurora’s published requirements and languages.
Aurora is a paid product. Check the current download and terms on its official product page.
Prepare the audio source and overlay
- Choose system audio. Game voices play from the PC: use the Windows system-audio capture through WASAPI. The microphone is a different source and does not replace that audio.
- Select the preset and languages. Distinguish the spoken language from the one you want to read. Use the selected preset’s catalogue rather than assuming every combination is covered.
- Configure the overlay. Aurora offers position, font, colour and background controls. Click-through mode lets clicks pass to the application underneath. The PC-audio overlay guide describes those controls.
These are directions based on published features, not a compatibility test with a particular game. Before a long session, check that the voices you need are captured and that you can read the text in the display mode you use.
What to check before buying
Review the language, preset, PC and result with the audio you actually want to follow. Aurora’s documentation also recommends recording errors and observed delay: performance depends on the PC, settings and audio quality. A demonstration does not establish the same result in every game.
See Aurora’s demonstration, downloads and current terms. This guide does not promise zero delay, perfect transcription or a performance increase while playing.
